ein Ausstellungsprojekt von Adriana M. Origel

Während der letzten zehn Jahre hat mein Land unter dramatischen Veränderungen gelitten.
Mehr als 100.000 Menschen sind seither in Mexiko eines gewaltsamen Todes
gestorben, immer mit Bezug zum Drogenkrieg.Mexiko ist jetzt,
quasi als ein Kriegsgebiet deklariert worden,
als ein gefährlicher und unsicherer Ort.

High Treason: almanac of hope ist eine Sammlung von Fotografien, Zeichnungen,
Graphiken, Gedichten, Kurzgeschichten, Zitaten und Zeitungsartikeln.
Sie handelt von einem, von Gewalt und Ungerechtigkeit,
zerüttetem Land, über Vergangenes was ich sah, was ich erlebte.
Es geht um die Zukunft.

Wie kan man ohne Angst leben?
Wie stellen wir uns die nächsten 10 – 20 Jahre vor?
Woran können wir festhalten?

During the last ten years, my country has undergone a dramatic transformation.
More than 100,000 Mexicans have been killed in drug-related violence.
Mexico is now conceived as a war zone, a dangerous and insecure place.

High Treason: almanac of hope is a collection of photographs, drawings, graphics,
poems, short stories, quotations and newspaper articles.It’s about a country bruised
by violence and injustice, about the past, what I saw, what I experienced. It’s about the future.

How to live without fear?
How to imagine the next ten or twenty years?
What to hold on to?

PERFORMEANDO (Spanglish word, coined by artist Hector Canonge in the context of Live Action Art) refers to the creation of an event, presentation, act, action, and/or artistic corporal expression. PERFORMEANDO is a project / program focusing on featuring works of performance artists who identify themselves as Latin/o/a or Hispanic living and working in the United States and Europe. PERFORMEANDO was launched in New York City in 2013 featuring local Latin artists in the NYC tri-state area. In 2014, PERFORMEANDO was presented, for the first time in Berlin with artists coming from different regions in the United States. In 2015 PERFORMEANDO continues with its programming in NYC, Berlin during the Month of Performance Art, and in Argentina, South America.

During MPA–B Anthology, PERFORMEANDO introduces the following artists at Organ kritischer Kunst (OkK). Their work explore issues of territoriality and geographical displacement. An artist talk is scheduled after the performances.

PERFORMEANDO serves as platform for dialogue and exchange, and fosters collaborations based on the premise of experimentation and exploration of Live Action Art in the context of the Hispano-American experience in the United States. The project along with its program presentations in the city and abroad have contributed to a better understanding of the concerns, experiences and creative processes of participating artists. Since 2013, PERFORMEANDO has been presented in collaboration with spaces in the NYC area in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. In 2014, the program was presented and introduced to worldwide audiences during the Month of Performance Art in Berlin, Germany. For 2015 PERFORMEANDO will broaden its scope reaching out to Latin America to work with artists from various countries who have been making an impact in the development of Arte Acción. The exchange of experiences, ideas, and practices in performance will further contribute to the growth of participating artists and independent art spaces in the Americas.

“How man, if he is to live in a ‘polis,’ can live outside of politics?” And how political art reflects the importance that politics play today?

Paris Legakis in his first solo exhibition presents a series of projects that share as central axis politics. As the title “Politischer!//?” suggests the artist through this exhibition wishes to raise questions on political art today and to argue for its role. In the opening of the exhibition Paris will present his manifesto, “Claim your Anger” on politics and political art, in a lecture-performance format and after he will open a discussion about this burning issue. What we will see in Paris exhibition is an attempt to use the whole space of OKK as an environment that will narrate his artistic process. The projects presented vary from sculpture, video and installation to performance and social engaged art practice, which have been realized in Greece, Germany, South Korea and the US.

Paris Legakis examines the relation of art and society, by focusing on the notion of borders in geopolitical and social level. His work balances between visual and performing arts, and he creates mainly site-specific participatory performances. His projects have been displayed internationally. Currently, Paris is studying in NYU in the MA program of ‘Performance Studies,’ Tisch, US, with scholarships from Fulbright and NEON Organization, and he has finished the MFA program ‘Public Art and New Artistic Strategies’ in the Bauhaus University-Weimar, Germany.

Wie kann ein Mensch der in einer „Polis“ lebt, abseits der Politik leben? Und wie kann die politische Kunst die aktuelle Bedeutung von Politik widerspiegeln?

Paris Legakis präsentiert in seiner ersten Einzelausstellung eine Serie von Projekten, denen allen als zentrale Achse politische Themen zugrunde liegen. Wie der Titel „Politischer!//?“ schon suggeriert, wird der Künstler versuchen, die Frage nach aktueller „politischer Kunst“ zu stellen und eine Positionierung zu suchen. Paris wird zur Eröffnung sein Manifest zu Politik und zur politischen Kunst präsentieren : „Claim your Anger“, welches im Format einer lecture-performance vorgetragen wird, mit anschließender Diskussion. Was wir in der Ausstellung sehen werden, ist der Versuch den gesamten Raum des OKK zu nutzen um den durchlaufenen künstlerischen Prozess wiederzugeben. Die gezeigten Arbeiten reichen von Video über Skulptur und Installationen bis hin zu performativen und sozial-interaktiven Kunstpraktiken, welche in Griechenland, Deutschland, Süd Korea und den USA durchgeführt wurden.

Legakis untersucht die Beziehung zwischen Kunst und Gesellschaft, mit Fokussierung auf die Grenzproblematik, sowohl im geopolitischen als auch im sozialen Aspekt. Seine Arbeit pendelt zwischen visueller- und Performancekunst und er entwickelt auch ortsbezogene, partizipatorische Performances. Seine Arbeit ist im internationalen Kontext als auszeichnungswert anerkannt. Derzeit studiert er an der NYU (New York University) im Masterprogramm ‘Performance Studies,’ Tisch School of the Arts, US, mit einem Fullbright Stipendium und durch Unterstützung der Organisation NEON. Legakis hat auch seinen MFA ‘Public Art and New Artistic Strategies’ an der Bauhaus Universität abgeschlossen.

Legakis ist auch mit seiner Performance “Exercising the 29th limb” auf dem event “enjoy (y)our state of emergency” in der nGbK zu sehen.
